Tomi Simmons, a poet, spoken-word artist, and 200 hour yoga trained teacher, shares her personal experience with healing from trauma through her poetry.

I have a passion for helping my community and am a nonprofit development professional. I was McPherson College’s first poet laureate in 2019 and served as the president of the writing club where I helped publish creative literary journals, and led virtual and on-campus writing workshops. I have been a featured artist at the Las Vegas Book Festival and at various poetry shows in the southwest. Holding a strong passion for theater, I have acted in collegiate shows such as Doll’s House Part 2 and Native Gardens. In Phoenix, I was part of the Vagina Monologues at the Alwun House.

I am proud to be from Las Vegas, Nevada. Right now I live in Huntington Beach, CA with my two cats Giles and Duck, and my partner. When I am not writing or performing I enjoy yoga, walking (trying to run), coaching basketball, finding records, and cheering on the Las Vegas Golden Knights hockey team and WNBA Las Vegas Aces.
